SOLD!!!!!

The details within this blog are reasonably comprehensive. Its on 1 acre in SW Ireland. We have our own deep well, sewerage treatment, oil fired central heating. telephone and broadband via a micro-wave link.

The house was built just over a hundred years ago and was a single storey cottage of solid stone. Much altered in the 1980's by a local builder it's now a large 4 bedroomed house with large kitchen, lounge, office/utility room, (11'X9') downstairs loo, family bathroom with shower upstairs , en-suite master bedroom, blah, blah blah. We're both keen gardeners and we've created a much admired garden of about half an acre with a separate veg. garden and poly tunnel. The other half is partially planted with trees and left as a meadow. The only traffic which passes us by is the odd local tractor, farmer and lost tourist. Unlike the UK we pay no water/sewerage charges and we pay no council tax. We pay nothing.
As you can see the house is largely surrounded by mature hedges (fuschia), trees and shrubs.
At the rear of the house there's a workshop of 12' X 12'; A store room of 12' X 8' and a 'fuel store' of 12' X 6'
At the bottom of the garden in the veg patch there is a concrete block 'shed' of 20' X 15'

The house is in good shape with no faults. If you wanted planning for alterations or to build an auxiliary house to replace the building down in the veg patch this would be much easier than the UK to obtain. Here planners don't worry too much about aesthetics and no one worries if there are a few alterations along the way.

So if your interested  SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD .

Map - Mizen Peninsular Co.Cork, Ireland

Our house is indicated by the arrow. The Mizen peninsular is one of the four which stick out from the extreme south west of Ireland. There's no dual carriage ways, motorways, roundabouts, zebra crossings, traffic lights, traffic contraflows (whatever they are) or speed cameras within miles of our house. And certainly no traffic jams!!

There's no light pollution, sound pollution or crime. The sea water is crystal clear.

We are five minutes drive from Schull (www.schull.ie) our local village. Plenty of pubs, restaurants, two supermarkets, galleries, a bank, post office and so on.
Two other larger towns are about 12 and 16 miles away. These are Bantry & Skibbereen with all the usual facilities. Cork City and airport are about 1hr 45minutes away if you don't break the speed limit.

The summers are warm and sunny - around 20 c
The winters are just?...... wintry but without the cold. We get no snow and only a handful of frosty nights during the year. I've never known the temperature to drop below freezing during the day.

Rear of House

The rear of the house overlooks a large part of our garden. The garden is approximately half an acre. The other half acre is planted with trees and contains a wildflower meadow.

Master bedroom

One of the four bedrooms is 12' X 11' and has an en-suite with power shower, toilet, sink etc., and small window. This was part of a two story extension which I built myself. There is also a dressing area.which you can see pictured. This is 8' X 5'6". This bedroom faces the southwest, overlooking fields, hills and the sea about a mile away.

Bedrooms/landing

All of the four bedrooms are double and are 12' X 11' one is en suite and these open out into the landing. Two bedrooms overlook the rear garden and the two front ones overlook fields with distant views of the sea and the Sheep's Head peninsular. Two bedrooms have built in cupboards. There is also a large family bathroom with a large power shower unit, bath and sink etc.

Lounge and Kitchen

The lounge is 21' X 11' and has an ajoining sitting area which is 13' X 6'. There are radiators and an open fire. The floor is pine. It faces the SW catching most of the sun. The view from the front of the house is fields and hills. This was the original footprint of the old cottage which stood here. The walls are 2'6" stone.
The kitchen overlooks the rear garden and has windows on two sides, one of which is a large picture window overlooking the garden. There is also one smaller window between the lounge sitting area and kitchen.
The Kitchen/dining room is 16' X 15' houses our Stanley oil-fired cooker & central heating boiler. There's also an understairs cupboard.
When we moved here the kitchen & the lounge was totally bare and had no floors or electric.

Our Pond and 'summer' house

Here you can sit, look at the fish in the pond, enjoy a barbecue or.....? And just a few years ago this whole area was just a bare field full of brambles and weeds.
